The Medical Lake Police Department issues Concealed Pistol License’s for the City of Medical Lake residents only.  We have listed further information about this service and the associated process below for your convenience.

Application Hours & Locations: Application hours vary depending on the trained personnel availability.  Please call (509) 565-5003 to find out when the Administrative Assistant trained in firearms records will be available to assist you. 

If you live within the city limits of Medical Lake you can apply in person at the Medical Lake Police Department or the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.  If you live in the county, you must apply in person at the Sheriff’s Office.  Please note that a Medical Lake address is not the same as being a resident of the City of Medical Lake.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

When do I need to have a Concealed Pistol License?
RCW 9.41.050 requires you to have a concealed pistol license when:
         You are carrying a concealed pistol on your person or, 
         You are carrying or placing a loaded pistol in a vehicle.

Where do I apply for a Concealed Pistol License?   
If you live within the city limits of Medical Lake you can apply in person at the Medical Lake Police Department or the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.  If you live in the county, you must apply in person at the Sheriff’s Office.  Please note that a Medical Lake address is not the same as being a resident of the City of Medical Lake.

What documents will I need to bring with me?
Picture Identification (I.E. Washington State Driver’s License or Identification Card).  An application fee does apply.  Please come prepared to pay the fee.  We accept cash, money orders or cashiers checks, made payable to the City of Medical Lake.  (Please note that this fee is non-refundable.)  Call 565-5003 for current application fee.   
   

Is there a background check?
Yes.  You will need to be fingerprinted and a criminal history background check will be conducted prior to your license issuance.

Are there any other requirements?
Yes.  The applicant must also meet the following requirements:

  • Resident of the City of Medical Lake.
  • 21 years of age, or older at the time of application.
  • United State citizen or have an alien firearms license issued by the State of Washington Department of Licensing in Olympia. 
  • No conviction or adjudication for any felony offense in this state or elsewhere.
  • No convictions for any of the following crimes when committed by one family or household member against another, committed on or after July 1, 1993


               Assault 4th Degree
               Coercion
               Stalking
               Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree
               Criminal Trespass First Degree
               Violation of the provisions of a protection order or no contact order 
               restraining the person or excluding the person from a residence
               No pending trial, appeal or sentencing on a prohibitive charge. 
               No outstanding warrants for ANY charge, from any court.
               No court order or injunction against possessing a firearm.
               No mental health prohibitions.

How long does it take before I receive my license?
It may take up to 30 days to complete the appropriate background checks, before the license is issued. 

How do I renew my Concealed Pistol License?
If you live within the City of Medial Lake, you may renew your concealed pistol license in person at the Medical Lake Police Department or the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.  (Please Note:  That having a Medical Lake address is not the same as being a resident of Medical Lake)  You may renew your license up to 90 days prior to the expiration date for a fee of $32.00, or up to 90 days after the expiration date for a fee of $42.00.  You must provide picture identification and your current concealed pistol license.  After 90 days you will be required to apply for an original license with a fee of $55.25.

What if I lose my Concealed Pistol License?
If you live within the City of Medical Lake and your license has been lost, stolen, or destroyed, you may obtain a replacement license.  You can apply for a replacement license in person at the Medical Lake Police Department or the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.  (Please Note:  That having a Medical Lake address is not the same as being a resident of Medical Lake)  The fee for a replacement license is $10.00. 

Does Washington have reciprocity for Concealed Pistol Licenses with any other states?
Washington has reciprocity or accepts concealed pistol licenses issued by a number of other states, so long as the handgun is carried in accordance with Washington law. The Washington State Attorney General’s web site provides a list of those states that have reciprocity with Washington for concealed pistol licenses.
