What Can I Do About Traffic Safety Problems In My Neighborhood?

If you are concerned about hazardous or dangerous driving, such as frequent speeding on your street you can report that to the Medical Lake Police Department and our agency will make every effort to assist you.  We also welcome any citizen suggestions as to the location and/or placement of our Radar Trailer.  

How Can I Find Out If I Have A Warrant?

You can come into the Medical Lake Police Department in-person, and properly identify yourself.  Please do not call our office as we are not authorized to release that information via phone. 

How Do I Report Animal Control Issues?

If you have an animal control issue that you would like to discuss and/or report, you can contact the Medical Lake Police Department.   You can reach a representative with the Medical Lake Police Department:

How Do I Find Out If Someone Is In Jail?        

If the person is over the age of 18, you can call the Spokane County Jail at (509) 477-2278.  If the person is under 18 years of age you can contact the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Facility at (509) 477-2404.  Adult inmate information can also be accessed on the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Website in the Online Jail Roster. 

How And Where Can I Get A Protection Order?

There are several different types of orders.  It would be best if you went to the Public Safety Building located at 1100 West Mallon Street in Spokane.  The Front Desk is staffed with an Officer between 8:30AM4:30PM, Monday – Friday.  The Officer on duty will be able to direct you on how to proceed.

How Can I Get A Medical Lake Police Department Patch?

We are a very small department and due to our size we regret to inform you that we are unable to carry a supply of patches on hand to give out to the general public.  However, if you would like to purchase one of our patches directly from our supplier, Blumenthal Uniforms & Equipment in Spokane you may do so at your expense.  Their phone number for contact is (509) 323-1104.   

How Do I Report A Traffic Collision?

If police didn’t respond to the scene of the collision, the vehicles have been moved, and both parties have exchanged information you can pick up a Washington State Collision Report Form from our office at 124 S. Lefevre Street and fill it out.  Once the form has been completed it needs to be mailed to the Washington State Patrol.  The address and the instructions are on the form.  This form is also accessible on-line at Washington State Patrol.

Can Your Agency Give Me Any Crime Prevention Tips Or Simple Security Idea’s?

There are several category’s below to view a list of idea’s to improve your home’s security.

Doors

  • Solid wood or metal on all exterior doors.  Good deadbolt locks with 1” minimum throw.
  • Use your locks – A lock is only useful if you use it.
  • Be aware of the risks of window in or near doors.
  • Make sure your door hinges are not removable from the outside.
  • Use a peep hole or side angle viewer in your doors.
  • Secure strike plates with 3” minimum screws that penetrate the stud in the wall.
  • Be cautions of mail slots and pet doors.
  • Make sure your doorways are visible from the street and not obscured by shrubs.

Windows

  • Make sure your windows have good locking mechanisms.
  • Safety glaze is available to prevent glass being broken.
  • Make sure windows are visible from the street and not obscured by shrubs, etc.
  • Consider window coverings that prevent someone looking into the house.
  • Be cautions of barring window that may prevent your escape in the case of a fire.

Landscape

  • Keep trees and shrubbery trimmed to prevent concealment for a potential burglar.
  • Privacy fence may also create concealment for a burglar.

Lighting

  • Good exterior lighting on all sides of your house.
  • Timers on lights give your house the lived in look while you are away.
  • Motion sensor lighting is also a valuable tool to prevent burglary and theft.

Alarms

  • Alarms are another valuable tool in preventing burglaries.
  • Be a wise shopper.  Consider the pros and cons of different systems and buy from a reputable company.
  • Remember, like a lock, the alarm is only valuable if you use it.

Other

  • Have your house number clearly marked on your house and illuminated by a porch light for quick recognition by emergency personnel.
  • When you are away overnight or longer, alert your neighbors.  Make arrangements for a trusted neighbor or friend to pick up mail, change lights, mow lawn, etc.
